Firstly it is important to say what is meant by a template. In web design terms it is a pre-made design complete with images and colouring that can be bought or acquired freely by open source companies.

Whilst we feel the internet is big enough to provide space for everyone, our choice as a company is to build our sites from the ground up with the exception of a few 'plug-ins' such as the one used to view this page. The reason is that we can build to a superior level than those on offer as 'off-the-peg' or 'prepacked websites'. One of the main issues is that for the template to function correctly the result is often very messy and somewhat 'clunky' code which is often difficult to repair or amend and rarely welcomed by Google etc. Furthermore, on a professional note, as web designers should you not be capable of designing a website yourself? We think so.
Another reason for us to not use this type of design method is to ensure that the centre of our designs are the requirements of our clients and not third-party software producers. Many template systems allow you to 'personalise' the site with your own logos and text but nevertheless, it is still intrinsically the same site being used by potentially thousands of other companies and so you may well see your site elsewhere on the net. But perhaps you should ask yourself one question? Doesn't your business deserve its own website at the very least?
